Hi. My avatar is called FDF, which actually stands for Flying Dog Fish, the animal shown on the top of the main page. My real name is . I was born and am still living (what a surprise!) in Ljubljana, the capital city of Slovenija, a small but beautiful country in the heart of the old continent. I was violently pushed into this world on the seventh of June 1974 at six in the morning. I can't remeber what I did for the next few years.
When I was just a little boy from kindergarten I used to play non-computer games. Quite often I was home alone, so I had nothing to do. Instead of being bored all the time, I played all kinds of games and was even inventing new ones.
Soon after learning how to read I became a real bookworm. In primary school I discovered I had some talent for writing. I wanted to become a famous writer. But things turned out very differently. I also had talent for mathematics, I got two golden Vega's awards (at national primary school competition in mathematics). So I went to highschool of natural sciences and mathematics (now Bezigrad highschool) and wanted to become a mathematician.
In highschool things turned a bit differently. I got my first computer, a 286 with a monochrome (black & orange) monitor. Who would read books after that? It's much more fun to play on a computer, because in a computer game you actually participate in the action and don't just watch it from a distance. In the forth year of highschool I discovered programming and my passion for it. I remember walking between the computers in the classroom and helping others. That was the time when I created my first computer games. I don't remember how they actually looked like. I only remember Bonifacius, the one that got me and one of my schoolmates (she wasn't involved in making it in anyway) an A. It was my version of Minesweeper.
Mathematics was forgotten and I went to Faculty of Computer and Information Science at the University of Ljubljana to study Computer and Information Science - Software, which I will hopefully finish by the year 2000.
As my programming knowledge progressed, my games became better and better. This process will never finish. After thirteen created games and three years of practice they reached a high enough level to put them on this pages and my dream became becoming a succesful computer game designer. Let me know, if you can offer me a job in this industry. Until I get one, I am creating my own computer games in my free time.
Some day, when I was playing tetris, I discovered I didn't like it anymore. The main reason was that it was just too easy for me. So I decided to make my own version. After a few months the first version of Multix was released. The latest version of this game is Multix II: Revenge of the Squares 2.04.
About two years ago a friend of mine showed me his unfinished platform game called John. As I allways wanted to create one of these, I grabbed the opportunity and convinced him to give it up to me. I renamed the hero to George and started programming from scratch, using only his graphical library written in assembley language. At the first try George looked like the human organ, that women don't possess and people were teasing me about it, so I drawed a new George and I named him George the Starfish Elephant, because he looked like one. I made up a story about how he was created by an accident, involving a wild elephant running away from a zoo, a strange laboratory, lots of rabbits and a nuclear explosion. After a year of occasional work version 0.99 gamma was released and is still available to download. The newest version 1.20 is not available (yet).
Other game related projects of mine worth mentioning are two player space combat War in Space, 3D artillery shooting Tank Kombat 3D, student project applets Educational Games and DooM level designing. My games so far have been freeware, but in the future they might not be freeware anymore. Let me know, if you are interested in publishing any of my games.
Around the time I started creating George, I got a modem and happily surfed to the infinite dumping-ground they call Internet. Soon I made this home page of my own to show the world how a good personal home page should look like. From that day on I've been upgrading and changing it regurarly, so remember to visit it often because there is allways something new here. This pages were the cause I was invited to a local TV station show (Ziva on Gajba TV) to show this pages and some of my games and to give an interview. It turned out OK, but from that day on I only give interviews over e-mail.
In my remaining free time I design my home page (guess you know that by now), surf the WWW (which doesn't stand for Wacky World of Windows) and rarely you can find me on the IRC (still looking for a channel to throw myself in) as 'FlyingDog' (the 'Fish' has run away - e-mail it back to me if you find it). More often you can find me playing chess as 'MarkoWhale' on FICS.
I speak Slovenian, English (this is why I was able to make Home of Bad English), German (not so good), Pascal, Delphi, C, C++, Java, JavaScript, VRML, HTML, Prolog, Basic, Fortran, Modula 2, Oberon, GPSS, PL/0 and Martian (I know all the words those bacteria did). My favourite computer language is Pascal.
I just love science fiction, I even used to work on a novel in a morbid sci-fi detective style. I might translate a few pages to English and put them on the Net. I also wrote a short SF story called The Future (2013).
I also collect interesting rocks. A big portion of my room is covered with them. You can send me any interesting specimens (zipped) via email (with a subject 'ROCKS'). I'll put them on my home page.
Sometimes I have to fix other people's computers. This is how I found out why some people just shouldn't own a computer.
My favourite active sport is throwing frisby, my favourite TV sport is basketball, my favourite colour is blue, my favourite fruit is banana (you probably expected blueberries), my favourite machine is my computer, my favourite living animal is the Sperm Whale and my favourite fictional animals are the Flying Dog Fish and the Starfish Elephant (you might see them floating around my home page).
