Relics

The year 1971 was very exhausting for the band because of the huge number of concerts and several studio sessions. In May the group's compilation of early singles and tracks was released.

Roger Waters played trumpet in Biding My Time which was recorded in 1971. The sleeve artwork was drawn by Nick Mason.

After touring in Japan, Australia and US for almost one year the band returned home in November, just after their new album Meddle was released in UK and US.

This great album has been recorded in AIR Studios, EMI Studios, Abbey Road and Morgan Sound Studios. The group spended a lot of time there and got twenty-four pieces down - all under the working title Nothing - Parts One - TwentyFour which later became Echoes.

Nick: "The constructing of Echoes is rather similar to Atom Heart Mother in terms of it running through various movements. There are various things in this construction that have a Pink Floyd flavour but are also very dangerous Pink Floyd cliches. One is the possible tendency to get stuck into a sort of slow four tempo and the other thing is to take a melody line and flog it to death."

Dave: "Seamus was fun but I don't know wheather we ought to have done it in the way we did it on the album really, 'coz I guess it wasn't really as funny to anybody else as it was to us."

With this album Pink Floyd presented two new songs (Echoes and One Of These Days) which were easy to perform on stage and later became "live classics".
